LOVISFROST

A WINTER DINNER AND DANCE

LovisFrost is a magical Winter event filled with music, dancing, giveaways and delicious food, specially designed for young people with disabilities.  The dance is open to all Junior High and High School/Extended Services students (12 to 22 years old) with an Individualized Education Plan.

We created LovisFrost because we strongly believe in the power of inclusion and recognize the importance of providing opportunities for young people to connect with others who share similar interests and abilities. To ensure an exceptional experience, we partner with experienced school personnel with expertise in Special Education, dedicated adult volunteers and enthusiastic high school student volunteers keep the dance floor hopping. Parents and caregivers are always invited to join in the fun and be a part of this incredible experience.

FAQS

How much does it cost to come?

It’s completely free for the student and up to 2 caregivers/parents.

Do I have to stay at the event with my son?  We’re working on building his independence.

Students are able to come without a caregiver or parent, as long as no medical care or treatment needs to be administered during the event.  We will require emergency contact information.

Sometimes my daughter gets overstimulated, is this still a good event for her?

We provide a quiet area for students who need to take a break from the music or just need to disconnect for a bit.

Can you tell me more about what happens at the event?

When the student arrives, they will check in and get their personalized name tag and lanyard.  After that, they can do whatever they want.  The buffet will be open, if they want to start off by eating.  The DJ will be playing the music, if they want to start dancing.  There is a photo area where they can take as many pictures as they want and have them printed to take home.  The Columbia dance will have someone doing fairy hair.  There is always someone dressed up as Elvis and a snow woman who is willing to take pictures and dance with the students.

There are no expectations for the students other than having a good time.  We have some young people who just want to walk around the whole time.  Some dance the whole time and some just want to hear the music.  There is no set agenda and no obligation to do any of the activities.

My child only eats certain things.  Can I bring their food with me?

Absolutely.

My son is in a wheelchair.  Is the venue accessible?

Yes.  And we make sure the dance floor has enough space for chair dancing.

My child graduated but had an IEP when she was in school.  Can she still come?

Absolutely.  As long as she’s not older than 22.

What is the goody bag?

The goody bag changes every year.  It usually includes stickers, bookmarks and a t-shirt and other fun things.
