Protecting K9

Funding a custom-fit K9 bulletproof vest for a working police dog

Logan loved first responders and their canine counterparts. Logan participated in the Cincinnati Police Department Explorers program, which promotes good citizenship and patriotism while offering young people a chance to learn firsthand about the criminal justice system. While attending the Michigan ElvisFest in July 2015, Logan formed a lasting friendship with the local Ypsilanti police officers. In fact, when Logan passed, the Ypsilanti police travelled to Cincinnati to perform Honor Duty at Logan’s funeral to celebrate the life of their little patriotic friend.

We aim to provide a custom-fitted bulletproof vest for an actively serving K9 dog through Blue Line K9 Project.  Our hope is that we can protect the K9 dogs in Logan’s honor just as they protect our communities each day. Our first canine recipient was Opie, a 2-year old police service dog for the City of Ypsilanti Police Department in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A purebred German Shepard, Opie is a highly skilled service dog certified in narcotics detection, article search, evidence recovery, obedience, handler protection, tracking, and building searches. As part of the SWAT team and narcotics unit, Opie and his partner assist with high risk search warrants, in which Opie was the only officer without ballistic protection.
